Sunday Night is Movie Night at NITV
Wednesday, 21 July 2010 13:30

Comedy, Drama and Action are all planned at NITV every Sunday night so get the popcorn and jaffas out, and enjoy the finest Indigenous films from the classics to latest release starting in August.

On August 1st at 10pm AEST it all begins with a classic of Australian cinema: The Fringe Dwellers. Directed by legendary director Bruce Beresford, and starring Justine Saunders, it is a drama about a young girl’s dreams of life beyond the fringe camp.

The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith is being played on the 8th August at 10pm AEST. It is the true story of an Indigenous man who finds the pressure of adapting to white culture intolerable, and as a result snaps in a violent and horrific manner.

NITV Showcase Movie of the month is Beneath Clouds, premiering on NITV on 29th August at 11pm AEST. It is the story of Lena, the daughter of an Aboriginal mother and Irish father and Vaughn, a Murri boy doing time in a minimum security prison in North West NSW. Dramatic events throw them together on a journey with no money and no transport.

Feature film September is among the new releases hitting NITV screens later in the year. September is set in WA in 1968, a tender story of friendship & loyalty between two boys, one white and one Indigenous, on the cusp of adulthood. It co-stars Clarence John Ryan as Paddy and Xavier Samuel as Ed, the latter recently set the world on fire for his role as Vampire Riley in Twilight: Eclipse.

NITV Sunday Night Movie Night will continue to entertain viewers all year with the best in Indigenous talent in front and behind the camera. Enthralling titles such as Boxing Day, Dead Heart, Bit of Black Business, Planes Empty and Green Bush are all included in the line up for 2010.

There is only one place to be on a Sunday night from August: In front of your telle watching a quality Australian film on NITV. Bring all your family! Don’t miss it!

NITV is broadcast free to air in various metropolitan and regional areas nationally, as well as via Channel 180 on Foxtel, Austar and Optus. Please refer to the website for full tune in details - www.nitv.org.au
