The protection of your personal information is important to NITV. The following guidelines indicate how your personal information will be handled by us.
How does NITV collect personal information and how is it used? NITV collects both personal information and anonymous information. Personal information is information that identifies you (for example, your name and contact details). NITV does not collect your personal information whether via our website or otherwise unless you provide it to us. The extent of your personal information that you choose to provide to NITV is completely up to you. The only way we know something about you personally is if you provide it to us, for example when you submit a program proposal, send us an email, take part in our online blog or enter a competition run by us. NITV will only use personal information you provide to us for the following purposes: (a) to provide you with the products or services you have requested; (b) communicate with you in relation to NITV, including future programming and other events and opportunities we believe you may be interested in; and (c) any express purpose for which you provided the information. In addition, we will use reasonable safeguards to protect any personal information collected by us against loss, unauthorised use, modification or disclosure or other misuse. NITV also collects anonymous information. Anonymous information is information that does not identify the person providing it. The anonymous information we collect includes statistical information about users of our website (such as the number and frequency of visitors to our website), and other information provided to us anonymously whether via our website or other means. We collect this information for research and reporting purposes and generally use it in aggregated form only. Anonymous information collected by us will remain anonymous. However, we may publish or share anonymous information with others including our service providers and the government.
Under what circumstances will NITV pass on my personal information to others? NITV will not publish or disclose your personal information unless you consent to us doing so, or we are required to do so by any law, judicial or parliamentary body, or government agency. From time to time NITV may need to disclose your personal information to third parties who perform services for NITV. For example, if you participate in a survey, NITV may need to disclose your personal information to third parties to collate and analyse the results of the survey. However, the disclosure will only be made where it is necessary to fulfil the purpose for which you disclosed your personal information and subject to requirements that maintain the confidentiality and security of your personal information.
What do I need to know about using the NITV website? The NITV website provides opportunities to interact with others through interactive features such as the NITV blog, forums and so on. When using these features we recommend that you consider the consequences of posting personal information in publicly accessible places, such as blogs or guest books. If you post personal information online that is accessible to the public, it may be collected and used by anyone with access to the internet. As a rule of thumb, avoid posting information online that you do not want others to use or share.
Does the NITV website use cookies? The NITV website uses “cookies” to help gather statistical information. How can I access and correct personal information held by NITV? On your request, we will take reasonable steps to amend any personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, incomplete, out-of-date or misleading. We may refuse your request to access or amend your personal information. However, we will provide you with a reason for our decision. If we refuse an amendment requested by you, we will place a note with your personal information indicating the amendment you have sought.
What do I do if I have concerns about privacy? If you have any concerns about our protection of your privacy, please contact us. We do not accept liability for any information or links posted to our website, however we will investigate all complaints. Complaints about NITV’s acts or practices in relation to your personal information may also be investigated by the Privacy Commissioner who has power to award compensation in appropriate circumstances. |
